Nathan Wins Chess Fest!

Nathan won first prize for grades 4-6 at the Second Annual Natick Chess Fest on April 29, 2001.  Twenty Natick students participated in this category.

Pictured here are the trophy and medal winners who won at least 3 games out of 4.  Dan is at far right, next to Nathan.

This is Nathan and the runner-up, Peter, at the start of the championship round.  This game continued long after the other games had wrapped up, but most participants stayed to await the results.

Here is Nathan's record of the climactic game (click to enlarge).

Between rounds, for fun, kids played "bug house," a game played with two chess sets.  This photo was taken at the prior tournament, the State Scholastic Chess Team Championships on April 1.

Our family heritage . . .
Nathan's great-grandfather, Norton Kessel, with Nathan's father at about Nathan's current age, circa 1961.
